Far-right German party can still be kept under surveillance, says court

BERLIN — Germany’s domestic intelligence service can keep spying on the country’s far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party after a court once again rejected its bid to overturn its designation as a “suspected extremist case.”

The classification allows the domestic intelligence service, known as the BfV, to monitor groups suspected of endangering Germany’s free, democratic basic order — including wiretapping of party members or even working with informants.
