The Princess of Wales is all smiles as she takes part in the Trooping the Colour procession, her first public appearance since being diagnosed with cancer.

Waving and smiling to the crowds gathered, she was seen departing Buckingham Palace in a glass carriage alongside her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

In a moving statement on Friday, Kate, 42, revealed that she has both good and bad days as she undergoes “preventative chemotherapy” for an undisclosed form of the disease.

Admitting that she is “not out of the woods yet”, the Princess said she has returned to light duties and helping her three children with their schoolwork when she feels well enough.

The Princess said she is looking forward to King Charles’s official birthday parade, which will be her first time appearing with the Royal Family since Christmas Day.

King Charles is “delighted “ that his daughter-in-law will be joining the family for Saturday’s events, said a Buckingham Palace spokesperson.

The Princess is also due to appear on the balcony of the Palace to watch the King’s Birthday Flypast, which brings the event to a close.

Princess of Wales looked ‘happy’ to be at important royal event

The Princess of Wales looked “happy to be involved” in Trooping the Colour as she made her first public appearance this year, a spectator has said.

Carol Haddow, 64, from Scotland, and her husband Brian, 42, were among thousands of people lined along The Mall as royal carriages made their way to Horse Guards Parade.

Mrs Haddow said: “Well, like anybody going through chemotherapy, it’s a big thing for her to come out and do this.

“We were a wee bit back but she looked fine, happy to be involved and she was with the kids.”

She said the royal family played an important part in “bringing in tourism” to the country, adding: “It’s a great thing to have a king or queen.”

Mr Haddow said: “It’s a part of history, isn’t it?”
