Job Purpose
The Controller, Shift (Production Operations Team – JV-Das) is responsible for controlling, coordinating, and supervising all operational activities during assigned shifts. The role includes managing process units, supervising the movement and storage of raw materials and refined products, coordinating loading operations at marine jetties and road tankers, and ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective refinery operations.
The Shift Controller also serves as the On-Scene Commander during emergencies, ensuring immediate response and effective incident management.
Key Responsibilities
Production Operations Management
- Supervise refinery production operations during assigned shifts.
- Monitor plant operating parameters and laboratory analysis results.
- Ensure production targets are achieved efficiently.
- Optimize plant performance while minimizing operational losses.
- Maintain safe and environmentally compliant operations.
- Coordinate production across multiple operating units.
Shift Supervision
- Supervise diversified refinery operations.
- Coordinate activities between production units.
- Ensure operational procedures are followed.
- Monitor shift performance and operational efficiency.
- Support continuous plant availability.
- Manage refinery operations during evenings, nights, and holidays.
Maintenance Coordination
- Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and production maintenance teams.
- Arrange after-hours maintenance support.
- Minimize plant downtime during maintenance.
- Ensure maintenance activities comply with HSE procedures.
- Coordinate maintenance scheduling with relevant departments.
Emergency Response Management
- Act as the On-Scene Commander during emergencies.
- Assess and declare emergency levels.
- Lead emergency response teams.
- Coordinate incident control activities.
- Conduct emergency response drills.
- Ensure staff understand emergency procedures.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses.
- Implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Utility and Process Optimization
- Work with Unit Supervisors to optimize utility consumption.
- Reduce unplanned flare generation.
- Improve plant operating efficiency.
- Monitor process performance continuously.
- Support cost-effective refinery operations.
External Coordination
- Coordinate operational activities with external organizations.
- Liaise with utility providers and partner companies.
- Coordinate logistics for product movement.
- Ensure uninterrupted operational support.
Reporting and Documentation
- Prepare shift operation reports.
- Report plant performance and production status.
- Document operational issues and corrective actions.
- Maintain shift logs and operational records.
- Communicate critical operational updates to management.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates should possess:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Or an equivalent engineering qualification
Experience Required
Applicants should have:
- Minimum 8 years of experience in refinery or process plant operations.
- At least 3 years in a supervisory or shift leadership role.
- Experience in refinery production operations.
- Strong understanding of refinery process units.
- Experience managing emergency response situations.
