Meghan and Harry break silence on picture editing furore – live

Princess Kate ‘reassuring’ Mother’s Day image ‘done completely opposite’, says royal biographer

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have spoken out following accusations a photographer doctored their photograph.

Yesterday it was claimed photographer and close friend of Meghan, Misan Harriman, had edited a willow tree into a portrait the couple shared on Valentine’s Day 2021 to announce their pregnancy with Lillibet.

The speculation follows Kate Middleton’s photo editing controversy after a family picture the Cambridges shared on Mother’s Day was pulled by agencies citing fears the photo had been “manipulated”, leading to Kate publicly apologising and admitting she had edited the snap herself.

Sources in Page Six, an American tabloid site, claimed Meghan “would never make that mistake” and that the Sussexes “would have been annihilated” if they distributed edited photos.

A spokesperson from the couple’s Archewell Foundation told Newsweek: “With respect to Page Six, that did not come from us.”

Comments Mr Harriman made in a 2022 BBC Radio 3 podcast resurfaced which led to the uproar.

When the interviewer asked if he was lying under a willow tree, he said they were lying under a meadow, leading to speculation the tree had later been added to the shot.

Mr Harriman later denied the “insidious” accusations on social media.

What led to the rift between Harry and William?

the royal brothers have continued to distance themselves from each other in recent months.

The pair did not meet when Harry spent time with the King at Clarence House following news of his cancer diagnosis last month.

In an interview with a US breakfast TV show, Harry said “I love my family” and that he was “grateful” to be able to spend around 45 minutes with Charles when he flew back to the UK.

Harry published his controversial memoir Spare last year, in which he accused William of pushing him into a dog bowl in a row over the Duchess of Sussex.

It was also claimed William teased Harry about his panic attacks.

Further tensions between the royal brothers can be traced back to the early period of Harry’s relationship with wife Meghan, when his then fiancee had a falling out with the Princess of Wales in the run-up to their wedding.

Prince Harry and William to honour their mother’s legacy

Prince Harry will join his brother virtually for an event to honour their late mother.

William will attend the event at the Science Museum in London on Thursday night in person, where he is expected to give a speech to mark the charity’s 25th anniversary and present awards to 20 recipients.

Harry will then join a video call with the winners, according to reports. However, his involvement will only take place after William has left the ceremony.

The Diana Award was set up to promote the princess’s belief that young people have the power to change the world for the better.

Dr Tessy Ojo, chief executive of the Diana Award, told The Times: “It’s a privilege to have the support of both the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex — particularly as we mark our 25th anniversary year.”

While a spokesman for the award told The Telegraph that Harry will be a “key part” of the celebration.

“He is scheduled to speak with the award recipients, virtually, on the evening of the awards to celebrate their accomplishments,” he said.

Manipulation of royal photos common, says photographer

Royal photographer speaks out after Kate’s Mother’s Day photograph pulled

The decision by major picture agencies to pull the first picture of the Princess of Wales after her abdominal surgery, over fears it has been manipulated, is “very odd”, a royal photographer has said. The photo, taken by Prince William in Windsor, was released by the royal family to mark Mother’s Day and showed Kate Middleton smiling surrounded by her three children. A few hours later the photo was recalled by picture agencies, including the Associated Press and Reuters. Speaking on BBC Radio 4 Today’s programme on Monday (11 March), royal photographer Ian Lloyd said “manipulation” of royal photographs was “common”, but the decision to pull it was “very rare”. Mr Lloyd added: “Someone at Kensington Palace is not vey good at Photoshop.”
