Every year, close to 10 lakh graduates and eligible candidates apply for the prestigious civil service examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), which is considered to be one of the toughest examinations held in the country. Of these, 1,000+ are selected for Indian Administrative Services, Indian Police Services, etc.
This year, Lucknow’s Aditya Srivastava has topped the prestigious UPSC Civil Services Exam 2023, the result of which was announced on April 16.The UPSC released the final result of the Civil Services Exam 2023. A total of 1,016 candidates have been recommended by the Commission for appointment, of which Aditya Srivastava from Lucknow has topped the exam. Animesh Pradhan from Odisha has bagged the second spot.
In his congratulatory message for those who have cleared the exam, PM Modi tweeted: “I congratulate all those who have successfully cleared the Civil Services Examination, 2023. Their hard work, perseverance and dedication has paid off, marking the start of a promising career in public service. Their efforts will shape the future of our nation in the times to come. My best wishes to them.”
“I want to tell those who didn’t achieve the desired success in the Civil Services Examination- setbacks can be tough, but remember, this isn’t the end of your journey. There are chances ahead to succeed in Exams, but beyond that, India is rich with opportunities where your talents can truly shine. Keep striving and exploring the vast possibilities ahead. Wishing you all the very best,” he added.

“Hard work along with smart work is the key to do whatever you want to”
Speaking to news agency ANI, elated Aditya said, “It was a bit difficult to sink in but after that I was ecstatic. I was not expecting Rank 1, I was praying to God to get into the top 70, so that I can get into Indian Administrative Services…I would just say that being consistent and hard work along with smart work is the key to do whatever you want to achieve and the same holds well for this field as well…”

It is important to balance your preparation

Aditya Srivastava, reportedly started preparing for the civil services in 2017, was already into the IPS when he got the result of the Civil Services Exam 2023. He had got into the IPS in 2022 with 236 rank and is currently undergoing training at the National Police Academy in Hyderabad.
Aditya’s academic profile includes degrees from top institutes of the country like IIT Kanpur, from where he pursued a dual B.Tech and M.Tech; schooling from CMS Lucknow with 95% in class 12th. He spent 15 months working at Goldman Sachs.
Why being an all-rounder is important
Just focusing on studies makes an individual dull. Linear focus in life limits several opportunities. Aditya’s father told the media that he was interested in cricket and music apart from studies, however, he stopped all this before the examinations to keep himself focused and not getting distracted. He has also cleared many national-level competitions including NTS, Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) and Regional Mathematical Olympiad.
He wants to work at grassroot level and uplift the system
Amidst replying to congratulatory messages, Aditya expresses a yearning to work in education and healthcare system and uplift the system. Speaking to IANS, his family said that they are full of joy and happiness over Aditya’s achievements and also informed that he worked very hard for this. Aditya’s father told IANS, “I am feeling very happy. He has worked very hard since childhood. Our dreams are fulfilled. We couldn’t believe it.”
