Job Responsibilities
The Library Assistant will support the efficient functioning of the school library by performing the following duties:
Library Management & Organization
- Ensure adherence to the school’s mission, philosophy, and educational system while managing library operations.
- Maintain a clean, well-organized, and resourceful school library to support student and teacher learning.
- Classify and index library items according to the Dewey Decimal Classification system and input them into the library database.
- Implement the library borrowing system efficiently and monitor loaned items.
- Conduct an annual inventory of library materials in June.
Educational Support & Literacy Development
- Teach students library research skills and guide them on using the library effectively.
- Provide and maintain educational and scientific books that align with the learning needs of students and faculty.
- Assist teachers with lesson planning, ensuring they have access to the necessary books and references.
- Create and manage a database of articles and published materials that serve as educational aids.
- Introduce and implement literacy programs and reading initiatives to enhance students’ engagement with books.
Resource Management & Collaboration
- Communicate with faculty members to understand their book and reference needs.
- Contact publishers and bookstores for library events, book fairs, and educational functions that benefit the school community.
- Provide regular updates on new library acquisitions and announce new additions to the school library.
- Submit the library’s new additions list to the Private Education Division.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Submit a monthly achievements report to the Head of the Library.
- Apply the school’s rules and regulations for lost/damaged books and ensure compliance with Ministry of Education guidelines.
- Ensure proper implementation of the library borrowing process.
Job Requirements
To qualify for this role, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- A minimum of five years experience working in a school library.
- Bilingual proficiency (English & Arabic) is required.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Familiarity with library management systems and classification techniques.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, students, and administrative staff.
- Passion for promoting literacy and a love for reading among students.
