KARACHI: A young YouTuber, who was making a video on a cricket match amid the T20 World Cup fever, was shot dead by a security guard on Tuesday night in city’s Sakhi Hasan area.
The incident took place at the Serena mobile market, a very busy spot, where 24-year-old Saad Ahmed was filming a video on the match by talking to shopkeepers, according to the eyewitnesses.
The eyewitnesses said that when he tried talking to the security guard, identified as Gul Hassan, about the video, he opened fire at him.
The closed circuit camera video (CCTV) circulated on social media which shows the security guard approaching the YouTuber and then opening fire at him.
The footage shows the bullet hitting Ahmed on his shoulder, after which he falls on the floor with people nearby gathering around him.
Following the incident, police rushed to the scene and with the help of rescue teams, immediately moved the injured man to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The police said that they have arrested the guard and also seized the weapon from him.
In his statement to the police, the guard claimed that the YouTuber was pointing at him while making the video. This, he said, angered him and he ended up shooting him.
The police said that the guard was from Waziristan and had trouble speaking in Urdu. They said that the could not immediately give a reason behind the killing, adding that his training may not be done according to the to the rules.
Meanwhile, the police lodged a first information report (FIR) at the Taimuria Police Station on the complaint of YouTuber’s father Mukhtiar Ahmed.
The complainant named the security guard, security company, and mobile market administration in the FIR. It said that despite taking permission for making the video, the guard shot the Saad.
