Electrifying the crowd with his soaring vocals, Indian singing sensation Diljit Dosanjh paid homage to his Punjabi roots at his latest concert in Dallas, Texas with a rousing rendition of the epic hit Jugni.

The celebrated track, which has its roots in Punjabi folk music stretching back 120 years, gained new prominence in Pakistan with the release of Arif Lohar’s Jugni in 2006. After Arif immortalised the track in Coke Studio Season 3 in 2010, the song has become entrenched in the hearts of fans and critics alike. Draped in black, Diljit performed his own version of Jugni before a packed crowd, zapping his way across the stage with his typically boundless energy.

Basking in the success of a whopping year so far, Diljit has been touring North America following the release of the hit biopic Chamkila. Diljit’s Dil-luminati tour kicked off on April 27 and will see the Punjabi singer performing in 13 cities across the US and Canada. His final performance will be in Toronto on 13 July.

Always ready to show his appreciation for music from across the border, Diljit singled out yet another Pakistani artist in concert last week when he strode out onto the stage to Uddi Ja by Mohsin Abbas Haider.

Mohsin, who entered the limelight in 2016 when he performed Uddi Ja in Coke Studio Season 9, immediately sought out Diljit on Instagram to show his gratitude. Sharing a clip of the iconic Punjabi singer’s concert, Mohsin tagged him in and captioned, “Thank you paaji for honouring my Song “Uddi Ja”. Much love and respect.”

Diljit’s unfiltered love for the work of Pakistani artists has won him hearts on both sides of the border, showing once again that music is the unifying force that transcends all conflict.
