When trying to lose weight, a majority of our focus lies on getting rid of belly fat. After all, belly fat can lead to problems in the liver, kidney, and heart. It can also pose difficulty in overcoming obesity. It is important to have a balanced and healthy diet, which should be followed religiously. You could consider kick starting the day with a healthy breakfast. Dr Kate Patton, Dietician at Cleveland Clinic, has helped prepare a list of morning breakfasts that can help in controlling weight and aid in shedding off the belly fat. She suggests that if one can follow this diet chart, one will be able to control their weight, increase metabolism, and remain healthy. Here are some tips by the doctor.

– The doctor suggests starting the day with 1/4 cup of nuts which can be almonds, pistachios, walnuts, or pecans. If you want to eat almonds, then you can consider soaking them in water overnight and then consuming them the next day.

– On an empty stomach, consume 1/4 cup of pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds in the morning. This will energise you and will not increase fat in the body.

– She advised starting a day by eating a small fruit (as per your choice) accompanied by two spoons or 10 soaked almonds.

– The expert suggested starting the day with a hard-boiled egg and five wheat flour or bakery biscuits. She encourages eating unprocessed foods.

– According to her, if one wants to start the day with a drink, then she suggests mixing a cup of protein shake with unsweetened, almond milk, and consuming it. She also suggested the consumption of smoothies by mixing a banana and soy milk and drinking it by topping it up with chia seeds. Having milk and sweet potatoes is also a great way to start the day according to the expert.

She explained that the diet chart does not mean that everything should be consumed in one single day. As per Dr Kate Patton, these food items should be eaten at breakfast every other day in different ways. The foods in the diet chart are rich in nutrients and are important to avoid serious diseases. Also, it contains minimum carbohydrates and high protein, which will keep you energised throughout the day and help you lose weight. She further elucidated that the consumption of protein in the morning will ensure satiety throughout the day. It will also reduce the fat, especially which is accumulated near the waist and tummy. She reminded me that it is important to engage in physical activity as well along with this diet to help lose weight in a better way. Finally, the expert advised us to avoid processed food, alcohol, cigarettes, fast food and deep-fried foods.
