In a groundbreaking move towards environmental conservation, the UAE has introduced the ‘Blue Residency’ program, offering a decade-long visa to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to protecting our planet.

This initiative, announced by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, aims to reward and encourage sustainability champions both within and beyond the country’s borders.

The Blue Residency isn’t just for UAE residents; it’s open to anyone worldwide who has made significant contributions to environmental causes. This includes members of international organizations, NGOs, as well as renowned activists and researchers in the field. Applicants can apply directly through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security, or be nominated by relevant authorities.

Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the vital link between economic prosperity and environmental sustainability, highlighting the urgent need to safeguard our planet for future generations. This move comes as part of the UAE’s commitment to making 2024 the year of sustainability, building on last year’s green initiatives that garnered widespread participation from residents.

Traditionally, UAE residency visas have had a validity of two years. However, with the introduction of the Golden Visa program in 2019 and the subsequent Green Visa scheme, the country has been leading the way in offering long-term residency options to various groups, including investors, entrepreneurs, skilled professionals, and now, environmental advocates.

The Blue Residency is not just a visa; it’s a symbol of recognition for those who tirelessly work towards a greener, more sustainable future. With this bold step, the UAE reaffirms its commitment to environmental stewardship and sets an inspiring example for the world to follow.
