Royal family news: Harry plays charity polo as Meghan’s Netflix series revealed

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been spotted smiling and walking hand in hand ahead of Harry’s fundraising polo match in Florida.

Harry wore white trousers, a light blue shirt and a beige jacket – while Meghan sported a cream halterneck dress at the Royal Salute Polo Challenge event in Wellington on Friday.

The Sentebale Polo Cup is held every year in aid of Sentebale, the charity Harry co-founded in 2006 that supports young people and children living in southern Africa.

The duke captained the Royal Salute Sentebale Team against the Grand Champions Team, led by his good friend Argentinian polo player Nacho Figueras.

Harry was seen playing in the match and sporting his team’s blue and white colours while wearing the number two on his sleeve.

His team won the match 3-1 with the duke managing to score the opening goal, according to the Associated Press.

The Prince of Wales and his eldest son Prince George attended an Aston Villa football game together in what is their first public outing since the Princess of Wales’ cancer announcement.

Prince William was seen smiling and applauding in the stands of Villa Park in Birmingham while 10-year-old George sported a Villa-branded scarf.

The pair celebrated the club’s 2-1 victory against Lille in the first leg of the Europa Conference League quarter-final – where they smiled and laughed with each other.

According to the recent survey, the disgraced Duke of York, whose car-crash Newsnight interview in now subject to not one but two separate TV dramas, was seen in a negative light by 86 per cent of respondents.

His lowly rank was followed by the Duchess of Sussex, whose new wellness brand is also unlikely to appeal to the 64 per cent of Britons who admitted holding negative views towards her.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have a strained relationship with the Royal Family and they are currently estranged from the Prince and Princess of Wales.

But they are still working to resolve the rift.

Royal author Tom Quinn told The Mirror: “There has been a shift here since Kate’s illness – Harry and Meghan do feel they need to extend an olive branch, but Meghan’s sense of grievance is still preventing anything really meaningful happening.

“Illness often brings warring family members together, and there have been hopes at Kensington Palace that Kate’s illness might do it.

“Harry would like a reconciliation, but supports his wife completely and until she feels that the Royal family have been sufficiently nice to her – and grovelingly apologised for the past – it’s not going to happen.”

Prince Harry is reportedly “eager to return to London” and “help take up some of the slack” amid the royal family’s health crisis, a royal author has claimed.

The claims come from Christopher Andersen, author of The King: The Life of Charles III, as Harry prepares to return to the UK for the tenth anniversary celebrations of the Invictus Games next month.

“In fact, he’s eager to return to London and help take up some of the slack now that the medical issues of the King and the Princess of Wales have thrown the monarchy into a state of crisis,” he told author told HELLO! Magazine.

He added: “If they [the royal family] could all put these perceived slights and resentments behind them, Harry and Meghan could be hugely valuable assets to the monarchy at a time when it could use all the help it can get.”

On his podcast The Rest Is Entertainment, presenter and best-selling author Richard Osman said that the money is “just rolling in for the Sussexes” after the much-hyped release of Prince Harry’s memoir Spare.

He said: “The book that Harry wrote, it’s impossible to overestimate how much money that has made.

“I mean, it’s been one of the most successful books. The fastest selling non-fiction book of all time.

“I’ve done some back of the envelope calculations because I like to. I know what you get paid per book. Got a $20million advance. Thing with an advance is, you get paid in advance, $20million in that case, you do not make a penny until your publisher makes back their $20million.

“And once they’ve made back their $20million, and there’s all sorts of sliding scales about how that works, what they get, what you get, once you’ve made the $20million, then you get your royalties.

“I think – and his book has not come out in paperback yet. So this book is purely hardback. I reckon he’s made $26, $27million. So he’s earned out an advance of $20million on the hardback of his first book alone. Forget rights to other things and audiobooks and what have you. He has earned that out already. When the paperback comes out, it’s just money rolling into the Sussexes.”

The Princess of Wales has been crowned Britain’s favourite royal in a poll describing her as popular “across the generations”.

A new YouGov survey revealed that 76 per cent of Britons have a positive view of Kate – a six-point increase since the start of the year.

The surge in popularity comes weeks after the princess revealed she had been diagnosed with cancer in a heartfelt video message following weeks of speculation around her health.

Her husband, William, also garnered the support of 73 per cent of the country while 63 per cent had a favourable opinion of King Charles.

When it comes to the institution of the monarchy in general, 58 per cent of Britons overall have a positive view, but this ranges from 79 per cent of the over-65s to 32 per cent of 18-24 year olds.
