Job Description – What the Senior Accountant Role Is About

The Senior Accountant – Muna British Academy is responsible for managing and overseeing all key finance activities for the school. This role goes beyond basic accounting and includes:

Budget planning and control
Accurate and timely month-end closing
Production and presentation of school-level MIS (Management Information System) reports
Management of bank reconciliations, petty cash, and fixed assets

Main Duties

Perform all finance-related activities assigned to the school, including:
- Preparation of the school’s annual budget
- Ongoing budget control and variance monitoring

Handle bank reconciliation, ensuring all balances match and outstanding items are tracked and resolved.

Specific Duties

Purchase Requisition Review
- Review and approve purchase requisitions, checking budget availability and correct budget codes.
Supplier Payments and Reconciliation
- Process supplier payments using the 3-way matching process (Invoice, Purchase Order and Goods Receipt Note).
- Conduct due diligence checks and validation before payment.
- Reconcile supplier accounts and escalate unreconciled transactions to relevant departments.
Petty Cash and Assets
- Manage petty cash as per policy to meet daily business requirements.
- Handle asset creation, run monthly depreciation, and close the fixed asset (FA) module accurately.
Month-End and Reporting
- Manage month-end closing activities accurately and on time.
- Prepare monthly MIS reports and review them with the Assistant Finance Manager.
- Present monthly MIS to the Principal and OSM to support informed decision-making.
- Prepare monthly balance sheet schedules and review them with the Assistant Finance Manager.
Bank and Ledger Management
- Prepare bank reconciliation statements and review them with the Assistant Finance Manager before submitting to Aldar Education Group Treasury.
- Ensure P&L and balance sheet accounts are accurate by clearing all unreconciled balances.
Budgeting and Audit Support
- Provide necessary support to prepare the annual school budget, offering detailed insights on school expenses and coordinating with the school and HQ finance team.
- Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, schedules and audit letters of representation (LOR).
Ad-hoc Reporting and Process Improvement
- Meet ad-hoc reporting requirements from internal departments and headquarters.
- Initiate process improvements wherever possible to enhance efficiency and accuracy in school finance.
Parent and School Support
- Handle exceptional parent queries related to financial matters, resolving them professionally and promptly.
- Support other schools in the Aldar network in the absence of their School Accountant when required.
